Tapioca balls are edible translucent spheres produced from tapioca, a starch extracted from the cassava root. When in bubble tea, they are most commonly referred to as boba or pearls.
Tapioca balls can be used in desserts and sweetened drinks, and as a thickener in puddings, pies and jellies. Small Pearl Tapioca is most famous for its use in traditional old-fashioned tapioca pudding.
