Chickpeas, (or Garbanzo beans), are a legume with a nutty taste and buttery texture. Naturally gluten-free, they are rich in fibre and a are a major source of protein in many vegetarian dishes, notably many Middle Eastern and Indian dishes. They can be eaten cold in salads, roasted and eaten as a snack, cooked in stews or mashed into hummus.
